Cloning Disk Drives

Commands for cloning disk drives on macOS.

Steps

Step 1: List disks

diskutil list

Step 2: Unmount disk drive you want copied

diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk2

Step 3: Unmount disk drive that will be wiped and copied to

diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk3

Step 4: Clone disk2 to disk3

time caffeinate sudo gdd if=/dev/rdisk2 of=/dev/rdisk3 bs=1M status=progress conv=noerror,sync
