Drying

Hang upside down and just let it be. Why?

  1. minimize handling
  2. facilitate slow drying

Why is slow drying important?

  1. if it dries too quickly, the final result will taste and smell green

My First Grow

May 6, 2024

  • Germinate Six Seeds
  • Germinate Directly in Soil (standard potting soil, unaided)
  • Variety is called "Modified Grape" by "Ziplock Seeds"
  • Purchased seeds from "Hemp and Humanity" in Woodstock and kept in freezer
  • Germinated in half an egg carton on my windowsill

  • All six seeds have germinated and grown to about 3 inches in their egg carton home
  • Transplant into their "forever" homes - black potting pots fit into white pales
  • The pot assembly is taken from JB Haze's book, specifically the "Versatile Pot Assembly" section
  • Soil preparation followed recommendations by J.B. Haze

Soil and Materials

  • 56.6 L of Happy Frog Potting Soil by Foxfarm
  • 17 L of Hoffman Horticultural Perlite
  • 4lbs of Happy Frog Citrus & Avocado Fertilizer (7-3-3)
  • Neem oil (Captain Jack's Neem Max)
  • Total cost: about $87.44

Process

  1. Washed all pots and pales with Dawn dish soap
  2. Mixed all perlite with potting soil
  3. Mixed 1/3 of that with 1.5 handfuls of fertilizer for bottom layer
  4. Filled remainder with plain soil/perlite mix
  5. Completely soaked with water, let drain
  6. Transplanted seedlings delicately
  7. Played Mother Earth's Plantasia

Plants look great! Named them after moons of Jupiter: IO, Ersa, Leda, Adrastea, Ganymede, and Thebe
