Game Plan for Growing a Yoga Biz

List yourself, everywhere

There are certain websites people go to when they're looking to book an instructor for an event, offsite, or retreat.

Think: festivals, parties, baby showers, anywhere people congregate and it can be conceived of as an appropriate offering.

Then:

  1. Your website
  2. All the social media platforms

And, post regularly.

Blog, mailing list, phone number list, and social posting

You're a teacher, and people want to stay in touch. They want to hear what you have to say. They want to know about opportunities involving you when they arise.

Writing a blog and regular email also have the additional impact of helping you think through certain ideas, and the writing process improves the quality of your thoughts.

A phone number list allows you to communicate in a more spontaneous fashion. You can create subgroups and target them with occasional messages.

Do spontaneous events

Invite people to the park for some sunny yoga on a nice day when you have some free time.

Do "mini" events

Go to a farmer's market with a small basket of yoga mats, lay down a little carpet, pop up a little tent, and offer a short parking-lot yoga class!

Remote viewership

Make sure to offer remote viewership of your classes.

A multi-part program

You can offer a 5-week program to work specifically on achieving goals:

  1. Better posture
  2. Less discomfort
  3. Being able to do handstand pushups!

Prompt your students after class

Prompt them to join your email list, follow your socials, provide their phone numbers, and try coming to one of your other events or classes.

Start a referral network

People who you recommend people to when they need:

  1. Pilates
  2. Medical-level physical therapy
  3. Sound bath
  4. Massages

Ask each of these people for their referral material (business cards!), and keep these in a little kit with you.

Sell Merchandise

You should have mats, shirts, granola bars, incense, or whatever else is something that your teaching potentially offers.

Target Athletes

Solicit athletes, coaches, and PARENTS at:

  • Track and swim meets
  • Bike races
  • Road runner races
  • Football, basketball, ice skating, ice hockey, soccer matches
  • Horse and equestrian events
